Can We Green The Snowbirds?

GreenMuze -
How is it possible that with so much discussion around climate change we continue to have carbon dioxide spewing celebrations endorsed by our local, provincial and federal governments? The time has come to reconsider having the Snowbirds fly at Canadian airshows and other community celebrations. Although there has been growing backlash against the Snowbirds for a number of years due to dangerous public accidents, pilot deaths and community groups opposing the use of a symbol of war at family-focused events, now is the time for the 'greening' of the Snowbirds due to their high environmental price.

Political Climate Change

PEJ News - Previous Liberal and Conservative governments have stalled on curbing atmospheric emissions. They have allowed industry to alter our atmospheric and ocean environments. By failing to impose regulations to control these emissions these governments no longer deserve our support.

Green Plan Comparison

PEJ News - After looking at the Liberal and Conservative websites it would appear that the only parties offering a viable green plan with substance instead of rhetoric are the Green Party and the NDP.  For comparison we are linking you to both plans

Breaking The Log Jam

PEJ News -
At the national and provincial levels there is a logjam with the provinces taking on the national government over the addressing of global warming.  The Hon. Baird is putting down the Ontario and Qubecs proposal saying that it is weaker than the federal approach.  That is irrelevant.  Companies must comply to directives from both government levels.  The toughest directives will prevail.

Maude Barlow Should be Encouraged to Decline the Canadian Environment Award

PEJ News - Joan Russow - Global Compliance Research Project - It has been announced that that Maude Barlow will be recognized by the Canadian Environmental Awards. The CEA media release says, "The program's top honour, the Citation of Lifetime Achievement, will be presented to Maude Barlow, who for 25 years has been a fierce advocate for the rights of Canadians and for Canadian sovereignty on economic, trade and social issues that have a deep connection to the environment. Barlow's most recent campaign focuses on the world's water crisis. Maude Barlow will deliver the keynote address at the annual Awards Gala, which will be held on Monday, June 2, at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto."

Maude Barlow must be encouraged to refuse an award whose sponsors among others are Shell and Nexen. The sponsorship of these two companies makes a mockery of the award.

Harper weeps for ducks in the oil sands; NAFTA articles ignored and international norms violated

PEJ news - Joan Russow - Global Compliance Research Project - After the duck die-in in the oil sands ponds, Harper proclaims that in producing oil in the oil sands, Canada must become a global environmental leader!!!. Production in the oil sands violates both articles in the North American Free Trade Agreement NAFTA, and international norms. NAFTA and SPP must be declared null and void, for violating significant provisions in NAFTA and international peremptory norms, and all further exploration in the oil sands must cease. No "carbon credits" can absolve Canada from its obligations.

New Orleans SPP Summit: Fraser Institute dupes the public by rebranding SPP as North American Standards and Regulatory Area

PEJ news - Joan Russow- Global Compliance Research Project - In the Canadian Fraser Institute’s paper entitled “Saving the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership” (SPP), the Institute is calling for a re-branding of the SPP as the “North American Standards and Regulatory Area” (NASRA). The Fraser institute is misleading the public by suggesting that the SPP stands for Standards and Regulations when it clearly stands for undermining and relaxing standards and regulations. The Fraser Institute misleads not only the public but also the government by claiming that one of its activities is the “environment”. A complaint against the charitable Status of the Fraser Institute was filed today.
