Amazingly, after suing us for £5million, EDF have invited us to take part in a ‘Stakeholder Advisory Panel’.

The company is very concerned about our ‘highlighting’ of environmental and climate change challenges through ‘disruptive protest’ and wants us to help them figure out ‘how best to address these issues and develop protocols which will guide its response to such demonstrations in future’.

ADDIS ABABA, Jun 30 2013 (IPS) - Across Africa, smallholder farmers, who are some of the world’s most impoverished people, are slowly being introduced to innovative approaches, such as entrepreneurial loan schemes and conservation practices, to combat food insecurity.

American diplomats lobbied aggressively overseas to promote genetically modified (GM) food crops such as soy beans, an analysis of official cable traffic revealed on Tuesday.

The review of more than 900 diplomatic cables by the campaign group Food and Water Watch showed a carefully crafted campaign to break down resistance to GM products in Europe and other countries, and so help promote the bottom line of big American agricultural businesses.

Genetically modified foods are foods made from genetically modified organisms. A few weeks ago, California voters turned down Proposition 37, which would have required that GMO foods be labeled as such. Chemical companies and processed-food manufacturers heavily — and successfully — backed a campaign opposing the proposition. Nationwide, GMO crops are prevalent and efforts to label GMO foods have yet to get off the ground.

But outside the U.S., you can find a different approach.
