all poor people are evil

PEJ News
- Janine Bandcroft - i imagine, during the days before and during nazi germany, many were afraid to question the motives of the government.  they didn't want to believe the signs suggesting that something really awful was going on.  they wanted to believe that their government, and their neighbours, were honourably intentioned, that they were doing the best they could, that they really were the 'nice' people that they presented themselves to be.

Desperation Time for the Empire

INI
- William Bowles - There is a certain irony in the current situation what with the empire (such as it is) decidedly on the defensive following its resounding defeat at the hands of a relatively small force in Lebanon (figures vary wildly depending on the source, running from a couple of thousand or so all the way up to 100,000).

Victoria Hunger Striker Gets Bail Hearing Today

PEJ News - Janine Bandcroft - Today is day 36 of David Johnston's hunger strike.  David is in Wilkinson jail because he believes all people have a right to sleep outside, in public spaces.  He has been repeatedly imprisoned for his attempts, and has refused to eat each time.  This time his sentence is lengthy, and he is willing to die rather than surrender.

Picture Perfect: Victoria Models Future Media

PEJ News - C. L. Cook - Already a poster child for the corporate monopolist vision of information dissemination for the 21st century, one-paper Victoria, British Columbia seems now destined to become a one T.V. station town too. Bell Globalmedia Inc. has successfully gobbled up CHUM Ltd., and today the axe first fell on more than a dozen media workers at A-Channel, the city's second television station.
