Rotarians Donate $80,000 to Downtown Community Centre Renovations

 

The media are invited to join members of the Rotary Club of Victoria for a pre-renovation tour of the Downtown Community Centre (755 Pandora) at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, May 28. Cheques totalling $80,000 will be presented to Cool Aid by the Rotarians, who are celebrating 100 years of service in Victoria this year, in part, through this lasting capital contribution to the community. A post-renovation tour will also be open to the media in the fall to report on the transformation of the public facility, which provides critical services to people who are homeless and vulnerable in the downtown core.

Victoria’sinclusive walking and running program, Every Step Counts, is celebrating four years of helping people improve their lives. The Anniversary run will be held at the Downtown Community Centre, 755 Pandora Avenue, on Tuesday, February 26, starting at 3 pm. At 4 pm, stretching exercises and treats will follow the run. Media are welcome to join this event which is not open to the general public.

Cool Aid’s Winter Coat Giveaway at the Downtown Community Centre

 

The chill of winter can be felt by all of us in Victoria, and it is especially chilly for those struggling with homelessness. To help people stay warm the Victoria Cool Aid Society’s Casual Labour Pool has been accepting donations of winter coats and other cold weather gear.

 

On Thursday, Cool Aid staff will start spreading that warmth by giving away over 300 winter coats of all sizes for men, women and children.

Warm Socks Delivered on Streets
McGregor Socks Donates another 7,560 Pairs – Total Nearly 50,000 Pairs

 

On Tuesday, December 18 @ 2 pm, members of Congregation Emanu-El who arranged the donation, will be joined by CARTS Outreach (Christian Actions Reflecting the Spirit) to distribute socks, hot coffee and lots of love to people on the streets of Victoria who are without homes. The street walk will begin at Spirit Square by Victoria City Hall, under the overhang near the drinking water fountain.
