Travails of the Night Driving Hack

PEJ News
- Ingmar Lee: I?ve driven hack (taxi) here in Victoria, putting myself through school on the 4pm-4am night-shift since the Blizzard of ?96. I?ve hauled countless thousands of you safely all around our town. I?ve been a professional driver for more than 25 years, I am an ICBC ?Roadstar,? and have never had an accident or an insurance claim.

Bridges for Women OnLine

Bridges for Women Society is offering an online version of the proven Bridges Employability Program for abuse survivors. Registration is now open to women who live on southern Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands. The focus of the program is the development of sustainable, long-term career goals for each individual. We offer curriculum tailored to the needs of women with a history of abuse, but the curriculum is also individualized in many ways, in order to suit the goals, interests and skills of each woman in the class.

The Town Fun Forgot

Swiftsure, Driftsure... I've lived in Victoria long enough to remember what the great annual regatta used to be and mean to the locals. Sadly passed, it's another case of our little burg's (d)evolution. But this attitude extends beyond us. I wrote the below a couple years back, and but for adding details like "our" government's further downward spiral towards militaristic fascism, it still holds true.  - {lex}

Pre-Election Poll published in Victoria Street Newz (Dec/Jan 04)

PEJ News Featured in Monday Magazine

Monday:
If the pen is mightier than the sword, then the website will surely outdo all the firepower at American president George W. Bush?s command. At least that?s the hope of Alan Rycroft and the team of volunteers who put together the Victoria-based Peace, Earth and Justice News (www.pej.org), a growing online source of alternative news that has lately seen some encouraging growth? with many of its visitors coming from Bush country.

Misinformation on Health in Cuba

Letter to Times Colonist:
Mike Milke has written an interesting colum on lousy health in Cuba.  Investigative journalism, a longer trip by him (if he has gone at all) to Cuba, would disclose that contrary to Mr. Milke's beliefs we can  indeed look to Castro for ways to improve Health care.
