July 1, 2005

By Richard Boyce

For the record, on this National Holiday the Prime Minister of Canada singled out Cathedral Grove as a landmark for this nation. Paul Martin singled out a ‘tiny’ provincial park, rather than the National Park further to the west, to illustrate the wonder of our landscapes. Let us remind the Prime Minister and the Premier of BC just how threatened that ‘tiny’ park is today.

My question is: Should a place that is such a national landmark that it appears in the Prime Minister’s address to the National be raised to the status of a National Park? (Richard)

Greenpeace: Coal & Nukes, But No Green Energy
McGuinty government backtracks on coal phaseout

Toronto, Wednesday June 15, 2005: Nanticoke will remain North America?s single largest emitter of acid rain, smog and climate change gases. The McGuinty government backtracked on its promise to shut down the Nanticoke coal generating station by 2007. Greenpeace called on the government to stop paying lip service to conservation and renewable energy and to end its obsession with nuclear power. With 8 generating units of about 500 megawatts (MW) each, Nanticoke is North America?s single largest emitter of acid rain, smog and climate change gases.
