A Method of Removing CO2 From the Environment

Caps on CO2 emissions don?t work. Spain?s emissions in 2003 were up by nearly 42% on 1990 levels; Portugal?s by 37%; Greece?s and Ireland?s by 26%; and Canada has increased its emissions by more than 24% in that period. Under the Kyoto rules, if signatories overshoot, they will have to make both the promised cuts and 30 per cent more in a second period from 2013! That is obviously unrealistic.

Primeval Moment - A Trip to the Ancient Forests of the Klaskish

PEJ News - Ingmar Lee - There are some things to look out for to know if a logging road is 'active' while cruising the backroads of Vancouver Island. Huge, freshly compacted tire tracks with wet streaks from water jets spraying red-hot brake drums on the downhills, and encroaching roadside vegetation vertically clipped to a height of 20 feet, all coated with dust or mud depending on the weather, -these are good clues that rivet one's attention firmly to approaching blind corners. Even without such signs, one must always assume that these roads are active and that without luck or care, a terrible, crushing death awaits.

PEJ News - C. L. Cook - Whether how the toaster really works, or the portent of geopolitics for your life, we are, in the "Age of Communication," babes in a wood, our endemic ignorance of human society mirrored perfectly with our general disconnect from the natural world and the other species currently suffering humanity?s ministration.

China Crisis: Threat to the Global Environment

The Independent UK - Michael McCarthy - Wednesday 19 October 2005 - Western politicians queue up to sing its praises. Economists regard it with awe and delight. Other countries are desperate to imitate it. Yet there is another side to China's exploding, double-digit-growth miracle economy - it is turning into one of the greatest environmental threats the earth has ever faced.

Feeding the Flames of Desire

Media Lens - After 4.6 billion years of planetary history, we may become the first species to monitor our own extinction. In impressive detail, humankind is amassing evidence of devastating changes in the atmosphere, oceans, ice cover, land and biodiversity. And yet mass media, politics, the education system and other realms of public inquiry demonstrate a stunning capacity to focus on what does not really matter. Meanwhile, the truly vital issues receive scant attention to the point of invisibility: the parlous prospects for humanity's survival and the root causes underlying the global environmental threat.
