Call for public hearings on Star Wars missile defence

Steve Staples: NDP leader Jack Layton today called for public hearings on missile defence before a vote is held in Parliament. This is important for us as it gives us an important opportunity to bring forward viewpoints that have been overlooked by the government and to generate more media  attention to the issue.

Dear Friends -

A further step toward these hearings was taken today by NDP Foreign Affairs
critic Alexa McDonough calling on the Commons Foreign Affairs committee, or
a new committee, to take on the role of soliciting the views of Canadians on
joining the US missile shield. This motion will be considered later today by
the Steering Committee of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and will hopefully
be brought to the committee as a whole on Wednesday.

We are putting together a lobby letter for the members of the committee to
support McDonough's motion, and will have it available on ceasefire.ca
Tuesday.
