THE PAPER - with special guests!
This 1994 comedy/drama by Ron Howard (Apollo 13) portrays the hub of
city paper. The pressure cooker newsroom combo of "type A"
personalities the need get the jump on the competition, balanced
against deadlines and ethics. The Paper vacillates wildly between
humour and poignant drama. A terrific cast including Micheal Keaton
is at his Beetle Juice best. 112min R Some strong language

***  We'll have a couple of seasoned local newspaper men, Patrick
Blennerhassett and Keith Norbury, of the News Group, with us to share
some of their battle stories!  **** Watch the Victoria News for Patrick's
story on Friday.

Movie Monday is a weekly, community film program. All events are always by donation and everybody is welcome. Located at the Eric Martin Pavilion Theatre in the 1900 Block of Fort Street.

Film:: _Iraq for Sale_  followed by discussion with Failr Trade Organic
coffee and teas

*Iraq for Sale"  is the story of what happens to everyday Americans when
corporations go to war.

Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,
Outfoxed, and Uncovered) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck
drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of
profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the
connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the
decision makers who allow them to do so."

6.  meet local green leader candidates - Aug 18th

If you have some free time on Saturday, August 18, please come out and meet the 2 Green leadership candidates from Victoria ...
Jane Sterk and Jack Etkin

Where:    Oak Bay Rec Centre Restaurant (2nd floor)
When:     From .. 11 AM to 1 PM
                         Saturday, August 18

Meet some fellow Greens, have a coffee or tea or snack or a beer  (The kitchen is closed but you can get the basics...)

Maybe we will have some very short speeches and a Q and A if you want, but mostly this is a chance to chat with other Greens and meet some of the leadership candidates.

Five people are running for the leadership, some of the others may be at Oak Bay as well.  The convention will be here in Victoria in late October.

7.  Po' Girl to Play Benefit Show August 19th

Friends and Allies,

A new anti-authoritarian and anti-colonial bookstore/infoshop at the corner of Kings and Quadra this September called the Camas collective is opening its doors in a month's time.  The space will be operated as a non-profit, volunteer run collective.  We have already taken control of the space and are currently involved in renovations.

There are many ways to get involved in this project, but one way that would be very easy and fun would be to come out and to party, dance and say hello at our upcoming fundraising benefit concert:
