Keep BC's North Coast Oil Tanker-Free!

The Dogwood Initiative presents:

"Global Warming, Oil Tankers, & the BC Coast"
*FREE ADMISSION* - June 5th 2007 - 7 pm, in the main auditorium
2994 Douglas St. - Victoria (The John T. Shield's Building)
Join us for this presentation and discussion to find out how you can help keep our coastal waters safe from oil spills, and limit the expansion of Canada's largest contributor to greenhouse gases, the Alberta tar sands.

The wild and pristine coastal waters of Northern BC have been protected by a moratorium on oil tanker traffic since 1972. This ban on tankers through the Dixon Entrance, Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound is now under threat. Breaches of the moratorium by Methanex/Encana have been ignored and there are now six oil and gas projects proposed for the north coast that would necessitate tanker traffic.

Tanker traffic on our coast poses an unacceptable risk. An oil spill would be devastating to the fragile marine ecosystem of northern coastal BC and the First Nations and coastal communities that rely on it for their livelihoods. It is time to strengthen the oil tanker moratorium and turn it from policy into law.
