Should Corporations Have the Right to Vote?

PEJ NEWS ~ Loren Duncan ~ Director ~ Area 'E'- Cowichan Station/Sahtlam/Glenora ~ In my three terms as an elected local government official this basically fascist notion of corporate emancipation...or votes, has arisen twice from the Town of Lake Cowichan , then Burns Lake and now from Lumby. Before my time it was also brought forward by others. It has always been defeated after raucous debate on the floor...but who knows? The fascists are gathering strength more and more so across the land.

Should Corporations Have the Right to Vote?

For me, this is akin to giving the Devil the vote...because he lives in every constituency...it is just as logical as giving first person privileges to corporations at the ballot box. Many local government elections are decided by small numbers of votes and the corporate entities will always block vote....

My request is simple, contact your local government elected official(s) and tell them to pay attention and be there on the floor when this foul thing is dragged before them for consideration.

RESOLUTION B76
--------------------------------------------------------------------
WHEREAS the Local Government Act, Chapter 323, Part 3 and 4 was amended
under the local government elections section, which removed the right
of corporations to have a vote.

AND WHEREAS corporations contribute to the operation of local government
but have no representation.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that
the Provincial Government review local government election legislation and
amend it accordingly to permit corporations the right to a vote in local
government elections.
