U.S. War Resisters Seek Shelter in Victoria

War Resisters.ca
- Valerie Lannon - Hello all I am pleased to report that three new American war resisters - 2 women and a man -  (and a dog!) are moving to Victoria very shortly. Unfortunately, some of our long-term housing folks are away for the summer, so we are putting out this appeal for short and long term housing.

The group consists of a couple and their dog, plus a single.  IDEALLY, they would love to stay together in a place with 2 bedrooms, and able to bring the dog. We acknowledge that such a placement is unlikely, but, hey, no harm in asking.

Otherwise, we would be grateful for single rooms (ideally room and board) for either a short term (1-2 weeks) or longer. Bear in mind that it takes about six months before refugee claimants can get their work permit and social insurance number and then begin working. So six months is often the period of time we are looking at for housing these brave folks.

While it may be necessary for them to move around a bit during this time, we try to keep the number of changes to a minimum. If you can help out in any way, either directly, or by contacting friends or acquaintances that could have space available, please contact our housing coordinator Stephanie Deakin, at: sdeakin @shaw.ca

Thank you very much.

In peace and solidarity,Valerie Lannon
