I asked the Saanich Municipal 2018 candidates for Mayor and Councilors these two questions.  Following the questions are their responses. Only the candidates listed here responded.

"I have two election questions for each of you that concern me.  Note that I may publish your responses including no responses.
1 - Have you located a property to put forward for government funding for homeless people and if not do you intend to do so?
2 - What action will you take to synchronize traffic lights?"

No Island Light Rail?

The Times Colonist reports today that developer Ken Mariash is selling off he Bayview Project.  This is the old rail yard for our dilapidated E&N Island Rail system.   It is the ideal location for a light rail station complex.    Once it gets developed with high rises though, the concept of an island light rail will become distant wishful thinking.    Now is the time to trade that dumb bridge idea that will equal more car traffic, for a nice new rapid rail system.

Homeless Camp Under Christmas Sequoia Tree,  Victoria City Hall

PEJ News - Kristen Woodruff -
Fond, fond greetings: We are still with tents under the tree in Centennial Square.  It appears that the City has no authority to do anything about it, and knows it; they have said in the paper that they will issue tickets, but this is not happening.  The bylaw enforcement policy is, indeed, of no force and effect and the Crown knows this and so the City cannot enforce the 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ban on tents.  Our tent was up all day yesterday; there are currently three tents up in Centennial Square.  Constable Jamie Pearse of the Victoria Police Department is roaming around but he has no authorization to do anything, which is causing him a degree of frustration.

Shifting Seasons, Cultures and Climates

GAS Shift - Ann and Gord Baird - Eco-Sense is getting closer. After the winter, and the first building complete, Eco-Sense is gearing up for the construction of the house, a truly green sustainable home. Grey water and rain water infrastructure complete, solar hot water system design being finalized, solar and wind systems designed and infrastructure in place, it is time for the house. As the season changes from winter to spring, so does the need for cultures as Ann and Gord point out in this months update. Cob workshops for the spring and summer are posted on their website.
