?Beat the Peak? May 3, and Show BC Hydro the Duke Point Gas Plant isn?t Needed

The Gabriola Island NoGasPlant Coalition is working with BC Hydro to ?Beat the Peak? on Tuesday May 3. From 4:30pm to 7:30pm, we?re challenging the island to minimize power demand as much as possible. Meeting the ?peak? demand for power is BC Hydro?s rationale for building the gas-fired power plant at Nanaimo?s Duke Point. Hydro says there has to be enough generating capacity on Vancouver Island to handle the capacity shortfall which might occur during peak demand time, which occurs during the supper-hour. If we can alter our power consumption patterns, we can make new construction unnecessary.
