Once again the United States has violated the mandate of the UN, the multiple resolutions issued for more than six decades, the right of the heroic Palestinian people and International Law, by designating the city of Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist state of Israel and move the headquarters of the US embassy to that city.
This unilateral, arbitrary and colonial declaration will raise the tensions in the Middle East to an unprecedented degree and in fact represents a brutal provocation.
Our Victoria Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid & the Victoria Friends of Cuba with so many other organizations and people around the world strongly rejects the decision adopted by the Trump administration that violates the right of the Palestinian people to their sacred land with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For almost three decades negotiations have been carried out to reach a solution that satisfies the existence of two States. In that time the demands have remained the same; the Palestinian people's right to return to their land, the creation of an independent, free and sovereign Palestinian State, the freedom of the thousands of political prisoners in prisons in Israel, and that East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian people.
The United States stands up with impunity as the master of the world, offending the historic culture and religion of the Arab and Muslim peoples while putting the region on the verge of serious destabilization and pushes back the negotiation process.

Some things are so serious, all you can do is laugh. ABC News in Australia is reporting rising sea levels are threatening a nuclear waste dump left behind by the United States on Runit Island — part of the Enewetak Atoll. The dump is now leaking radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean, threatening every man, woman, and child living on its edge. That is quite a few folks, if you stop to think about it.

Enewetak Atoll and rising ocean levels

Americans like to brag about the economic miracle the country brought to the world through the globalization of capitalism, but it is fair to say the foundation of American power began on August 6, 1945 when it dropped an atomic bomb blast that vaporized Hiroshima — killing more than 40,000 human beings instantly. Many more would perish in the days, weeks, and months to come.

The ethics of using nuclear weapons on the civilian population of Japan has been the subject of vigorous debate ever since. With the perspective that history provides, many now question the wisdom of Harry Truman’s decision to use nuclear weapons, but there is no question that once the awesome power of “The Bomb” became apparent, every other nation on earth wanted one.

Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Gulf Coast of Texas late Friday night as a Category 4 storm, and, since making landfall near Corpus Christi, has dumped record rainfall on Houston and the surrounding areas. A full-blown catastrophe is underway there as tens of thousands fled the area, and thousands of those who didn’t evacuate have been rescued by emergency responders and volunteers. Harvey, now a tropical storm, has dropped an estimated 11 trillion gallons of rain on Texas, and much more is on the way, particularly for Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city, which is expected to shatter all-time rainfall records.

"This Trump speech is like something out of a psychopathology textbook."

Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi has witnessed many of Donald Trump's rallies and speeches, but the president's performance Tuesday night in Phoenix, Arizona—delivered as hundreds of protestors crowded the streets demanding "Mr. Hate" to leave their state—was the "craziest" yet.

"This Trump speech is like something out of a psychopathology textbook."
—Matt Taibbi, Rolling Stone

"Trump," Taibbi wrote, was in "full delusion-mode" throughout the evening, fuming to the delight of his supporters in the crowd about the media's focus on his defense of white supremacist violence, railing against states moving to take down Confederate statues, and accusing news outlets of "turning off live feedsbecause they're afraid of his words."

The president also floated the possibility of a government shutdown if Congress refuses to authorize funds for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and claimed that former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio—who last month was found guilty of criminal contempt for ignoring a court order demanding that his department stop racially profiling Latinos—was "just doing his job."

"This Trump speech is like something out of a psychopathology textbook," Taibbi concluded.

Others shared Taibbi's assessment, denouncing on social media and in aghast statements the "unhinged," "hostile," and "incoherent" nature of Trump's campaign-style rally.

From peddling climate lies to his refusal to come clean on his financial holdings, nationwide protests target U.S. president

Marchers demanding "truth" in New York City on Saturday morning. Backed by dozens of local groups and national organizations—including MoveOn, Women’s March, Indivisible, Public Citizen, Free Speech for People, and Town Hall Project—the marches were scheduled in at least 140 cities and towns across all fifty states. Just days after President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris climate agreement and with the testimony of fired FBI director James Comey scheduled for next week, U.S. citizens gathered for protests in cities nationwide on Saturday to denounce the president's penchant for lying, obscuring facts, and promoting alternative realities.
