We can't compare this witch-hunt to the more devastating ones in the 50s but it is part of a trend of attacks on civil liberties, academic freedom, and anyone who dares buck against the bipartisan party line. In a time when students are being investigated for singing Bob Dylan and wearing the wrong t-shirts, and Gitmo is just a stone?s throw away, such hearings help create an atmosphere where the bipartisan pit bull in Washington feels it can get away with more, and more, and more. - DZ

In the six months leading up to the invasion of Iraq, the United States erupted in a display of citizen dissent not seen since the Vietnam War era. Since the war began the US peace movement has virtually disappeared from the public view, dispite growing public outrage against the unfolding catastorphe in Iraq. On Presidents' Day weekend, 500 delegates from the largest US peace coalition, "United for Justice and Peace", met to construct a new strategy to act against the war.

Utah school district attempts to provide homosexuality-free text books

Good science is not good for Utah. Seems they need to update their psychology textbook but cannot find one that does not mention homosexuality. Morons.org has a great discussion going on this one.

The School District says it only mentions homosexuality with the following policy, "Our policy is that it will not be taught unless it is teaching the negative consequences thereof."
