I Wonder What I Can Do...

PEJ News
- As I read all the horrific news stories, I wonder what I can do. My spiritual beliefs teach me that once a cycle has been put into motion, that it must fulfill itself. My intellect rages against that wisdom and tells me I must save the babies, the children, the sick, the maimed, the animals, the rivers, the lakes, the planet, in fact all that exists and again I wonder how.

Canada Would Become International Pariah Under Harper's Conservatives

Submitted to the Globe and Mail December 25 - If the Conservatives were to form government, Canada could become an international Pariah. The practice of the Liberals of ignoring many of the international instruments would be intensified under the Conservatives.

Harper To Set Gays Free

PEJ News - "It will be a genuine free vote when I?m Prime Minister,? Harper said. ?I will not whip our Cabinet.?  (is that weird or what?)

Stephen Harper is in full election mode.  To get the gay marriage issue out of the way and hopefully forgotten come election day January 23rd, he has raised same-sex marriage before anyone of his candidates can.

No to US Drug War in Canada - Be part of 5 Minute Action

PEJ News - "This whole sorry history, reflects the sorry history of prohibition in the United States, where anti-pot mania falsely lumped the relatively benign hallucinogen in with brutal narcotics like heroin." - Madame Justice Mary Southin, The Province, Wednesday, June 25, 2003

MP refused communion, "over a handshake?"

MP refused communion "over a handshake"

Charlie Angus, MP for Timmins-James Bay voted in support of Bill C-38, the Civil Marriage Act. The vote itself did not cost him his right to communion, which is being denied him by the Priest of his parish, Father John Lemire. To date to my knowledge not one other MP has been subject to religious censure.

Reflections on Canada Day

Some of us grew up with one Prime Minister. Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Trudeau was a man of vision and determined to bring that vision to a willing nation in 1968.

I was a school boy in 1968 when Trudeaumania stunned Canadians. He was something we had never seen before, a leader that accepted we could have fun, we could be who we are. He turned our country upside down and mixed it up before he righted us with the Constitution and Charter of Rights in 1982.

Canadian Budget for Housing - Goes to City Councils

PEJ News: As Members of Parliament attempt to get out of Ottawa, a few major pieces of legislation need to be passed. The number one item on the government's agenda is the passing of the NDP budget amendment. The amendment has been lauded upon by municipalities across Canada for a couple of reasons, primarily due to its provisions for affordable housing and the environment.

Profiteers Want Our Healthcare

Look out, here comes an all out assault on Public healthcare....

It may do us all well to revisit the days when Medicare started in Canada. Doctors and Insurance companies have been fighting to regain what they feel they lost beginning in 1962 in Saskatchewan and a few years later across Canada. I will in a few days review the private interests of profiteers in healthcare within Canada.
