Bear Mountain Tree Sit Under Attack!

RCMP and demolition crews have moved against the Bear Mountain Tree Sit this morning. RCMP have set up a road block on Goldstream, blocking all media and public access. Ingmar Lee and other protesters attempting to block heavy machinery have been arrested. Not known at this time how many are up in the trees on the platforms.

Please respond immediately with cameras to record the police brutality and support the tree sit!

LOG & FLOG DISPLACES FOREST LAND

Richard Boyce -
November 16, 2007 - I just walked through the 'not-a-clear-cut' logged area between Qualicum Beach and Coombs. The second growth forest, once considered a buffer from previous logging, has just been leveled. 'Single stem variable retention logging' at its finest. Like sentinels left standing on a bleak and desolate landscape, a few deformed trees remain. A jumble of stumps, exposed root-balls, shattered trunks, branches, and exposed ground cover are all that remain.

Stop the Vote Split and Defeat the Conservatives

PEJ News - Kevin Logan -
Shun Lunn Web Site Launch - "The Conservatives win if the other four parties are at each other's throats; they lose if they line up together, particularly if NDP and Green voters swing to the Liberals." Tom Flanagan Harper's Team: Behind the Scenes in the Conservative Rise to Power. See news source here.

Tom Flanagan, Harper's equivalent to Karl Rove, concludes in his new book: Harper's Team: Behind the Scenes in the Conservative Rise to Power, "No matter how well designed our campaign had been, it would have been hard for us to win if the NDP had not held up its end," and this is at the heart of the "Stop the Vote Split Campaign."

Saanich Farmland Threatened by Development

PEJ News - Michael Horie and Bert Slater -
For years, the Vantreight Farms have been known for their daffodils; but a recent proposal to develop a part of the Farms has sparked concerns among residents. At issue is the planned construction of more than 260 residential units on a forested hillock at the border of North and Central Saanich. These units, including over 140 condos spread over several buildings up to 6 storeys tall, over 90 townhouses, as well as dozens of single-family dwellings, would present a density almost 100 times than what the current zoning allows.

The World Is Coming To Pearson College - On Two Wheels

PEJ News
- Nico - This weekend, 200 students are arriving in Victoria from 88 different countries, bound for Pearson College to start a new school year. Before our first week of school at Pearson, a group of us have decided to bicycle to the campus in Metchosin instead of taking the old College vans. This starts off the year on the right foot and keeps up our momentum in building a sustainable community at the College. On this first ever ride, there will be about 16 arriving international students, several faculty and staff including David Hawley the College Director, riding with us.

Oak Bay Green Committee Hangs Suburban Myth Out to Dry

Oak Bay Green Committee
- Behind Oak Bay's Tweed Curtain a suburban myth has long been perpetuated much to the delight of climate change naysayers and those who simply find the laundry line unsightly or downright vulgar. The Oak Bay Green Committee (OBGC) contacted the municipality to get to the bottom of the laundry line rumor that continues to be passed from resident to resident, municipality to municipality.

The OBGC regularly gets calls asking for verification of the laundry line myth.
