Food not lawns

- Resistance is fertile and alive at UVic… keep updated and informed!

March 31st: students, faculty and community members converged on the remains of last week’s garden and rebuilt it! There was music, speakers, free food, and everyone was invited to participate. Hundreds more people came out for the event, and the new garden is even bigger and more fertile than last time! At 7pm there will be a potluck dinner and discussion–everyone is welcome! If you haven’t participated before, or you want to learn more, this is a great opportunity to get involved. Come join the fun! Come to the space (UVic, in front of MacPherson Library) and join Resistance is Fertile in discussing the problems and challenges we face in terms of food security, politics, bureaucracy, colonialism, and the way we relate to the places where we live and work. Bring your kids, your families, your friends and your communities! If you can: bring food, bowls, cups and plates. Resistance is fertile!

What Does Sustainability Mean for Victoria?

PEJ News - City of Victoria - News Release - Everyone is talking about sustainability, but what does it mean for Victoria? The City of Victoria is embarking on a comprehensive, new initiative focusing on how the municipality can improve its operations and what measures the community must take in the long term to ensure Victoria is sustainable for future generations. The Victoria Sustainability Framework will develop an over-arching vision to guide long-term community planning and City operations in the future. In addition, it will build on existing corporate plans, such as the Official Community Plan and Corporate Strategic Plan, recent consultation work commissioned by the City, and best practices from other jurisdictions.

Victoria's 27th Annual Earth Walk Saturday, Celebrating Victoria's GrassRoots

Earth Walk - The Earth Walk has long been a fun family event that brings bright and energetic people out and brings together the many progressive organizations that are championing many of the issues we face as a community. To top it off, there will be a great concert right on the Lawns of the Legislature.

Participants are encouraged to dress up parade-style and meet in Centennial Square right behind City Hall at noon, where there will be entertainers and music. At 12:30 the Earth Walk will begin and we will Parade out onto Government Street: Drummers, dancers and smiling wavers will ease their way to the Legislature Lawns. We should arrive at our destination the Provincial Legislature by 1:00 where there will be Entertainment and Speakers. Best of all, some of the best advocacy groups in the Region will be there to share with you what they have been working on and will let you know how you can help. This is what Earth Walk is all about!
