Victoria's Harbour and airspace should be nuclear-free, safe, quiet and colourful, says Gregory Hartnell, President of the Concerned Citizens' Coalition (CCC), and a candidate with Patrick Jamieson and Father Allen Jones for the CCC in the up-coming Victoria Civic Election.

George Weigel: why did St. Andrew's Rector invite him to speak in Victoria?

PEJ News
- Gregory Hartnell - As I ponder the barbarity, criminality and foolishness of the execution of Saddam Hussein, I wonder why the notorious American Catholic neocon dissenter George Weigel was invited by a group headed by the Rector of St. Andrew's Cathedral to speak at a two day conference held in September in Victoria. Mr. Weigel is an unapologetic defender of the unjust war in Iraq, dissenting publicly from the well-known opposition to it by both popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

Where do Liberal leadership contenders stand on Nanoose Bay?

PEJ News - Gregory Hartnell - It's disappointing, but not surprising, to learn that former Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien showed less resolve in confronting American hegemony over the Nanoose Bay weapons testing range than he did over whether to send Canadian troups to Iraq.

PEJ News
- Janine Bandcroft - On the day that Canadians lost their 40th soldier in Afghanistan, the Canadian Military was in Victoria with Navy Days, promoting war and recruiting new young lives.  In response, Victoria's Women in Black and the Raging Grannies peacefully protested.

U.S. War Resisters Seek Shelter in Victoria

War Resisters.ca
- Valerie Lannon - Hello all I am pleased to report that three new American war resisters - 2 women and a man -  (and a dog!) are moving to Victoria very shortly. Unfortunately, some of our long-term housing folks are away for the summer, so we are putting out this appeal for short and long term housing.

Strange Birds Off My Balcony: Trident Rising over Victoria

PEJ News
- C. L. Cook - I've become something of a plane spotter of late. Not because I have any inordinate fascination with the aviation industry, despite it's awesomeness, but that my home's prospect invites traffic. The industrial scale energy expended by next door war game, 'Exercise Trident Fury' is spewing over we wee-towners today, clearly marking our skies with a filmy, chemical murk, obscuring tonight the moon rise. If you look up, Victorians, you'll see the unmarked, white planes, exuding a white trail, in what from the ground looks like four streams.
