SHELTER AID FOR ELDERLY (SAFER)

Provides direct cash assistance to eligible residents of BC who are 60 or over and pay rent. Seniors may be eligible if they pay more than 30% of household gross monthly income toward rent, are 65 or over and entitled to Old Age Security, are 60-64 and a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, have resided in BC for 12 months prior to applying, or have lived in Canada for 10 continuous years as an adult.

SAFER rent subsidy forms are available at Peninsula Community Services Volunteer Centre, and PCS volunteers can help seniors fill out the forms.
